Wild Horse Acres looking north

Looking North from the East End of Wild Horse Acres

The road you are looking at is the Oregon Trail. For quite a distance it parallels Smoke Creek Ranch Road going east. It is used today by Government people to drive up to watering wells provided for wild horses and grazing cattle. Basically it is a short segment of the trail that has a purpose today so it is driven enough to maintain the ruts.

You would not be wise to take this road any distance unless you had a very good 4 wheel drive vehicle, off road motor cycle, or horse. Unless you are on horse back, do not take this road in the winter or when wet and muddy. The particular type of dirt, dust, lava, and diatomaceous earth on this road will stop most motorized vehicles when muddy. So says Le Roy Cramer.

Wild Horse Acres offers excellent riding capabilities in the original wild west setting. There is a United States Government campground north of Wild Horse Acres called Ramhorne Springs. This campground is somewhat rustic. The government campground offers much better facilities for camping than Wild Horse Acres.
