BLM

Bureau of land management (BLM) is a term for government land which is not a forest, park, wilderness area, improved property under another authority, or military reservation. In general terms, BLM land is government land which the government doesn't know what to do with but doesn't want the public to do any thing with it either. As such, BLM land is not heavily regulated, nor is BLM land much improved. Just regular, large sections of raw land.

Wild Horse Acres. Located on Highway 395 in the south easterly end of the BLM Susanville District. This BLM district has three campgrounds; BLM North Eagle Lake: fees, restrooms, water, & trailers; BLM Pit River: restrooms, & trailers; BLM Ramhorn Springs: restrooms, water, & trailers. Hunting, fishing, and riding are all to be had. BLM has 1.2 million acres of the old west to play in. Not just any piece of the old west either. It's the official crossroads of the Oregon Trail.

However, the 1.2 million acres around Wild Horse Acres is somewhat dedicated to wild horses.

Unlike southern California, northern California is not highly populated. When one studies the southern district BLM lands, one finds that there are many places which are still like the old west. Unfortunately, BLM land is government land and not for sale to the general public. The land that is for sale, is crowded. There are a lot of people living in southern California. California's main population goes from southern California up to the San Francisco, Sacramento line. The size variance between San Francisco and the Bay Area, against the L.A. is one (1) to ten (10). The same true between Sacramento and San Diego. Further north, the population goes down. If one takes into account the size of the area, Lassen County's population to land area verses the Bay Area is one thousandth (1/1000. The major population area of far northern California is high in the west by the ocean, high in the center near Redding, and low in the east. The whole County of Lassen California's population is less than that of a typical small city in the Bay Area like Redwood City.

BLM land encircles Wild Horse Acres. On BLM land, there is very little. This land is not advertised or promoted to the general public because it is wild horse land. Wild horses don't do well with people chasing them on motorcycles and the such. So, the government keeps this BLM area quiet. As well they should.

BLM wild horse correl

Here is where the government keeps the wild horses ranging on the BLM property of Lassen California. There's no wild horses.

The result is a large section of land with few people, meager roads, little civilization, and a smattering of wild horses. Not that it is primitive but it is not like there is a supermarket or large department stores within a couple miles either.
