The great Monterey canyon cleans the waters of dirt washed down from the north. This is clear deep cold water which doesn't usually have an algae bloom. Thus, between the deep clear blue cold sea water cleansing action and no local dirt, Monterey is generally very clear all year round.

Under water is very colorful. There is much life. Great Whites, orcas and seals frequent the waters. Twenty foot wing span stingrays are not uncommon either. But still, isn't too dangerous.
